Thanksgiving

Let's continue working in lists I guess.  My point is:  My God,  I live in New York.

'coming to my mind tonight, in no particular order:

  • "How do you find the people of New York? [time passes.  I talk about my accent and how it disappeared, how I made it disappear, how I'm aware of it, how I notice those things.  I set myself up for this:]...When you speak to me do you think I'm from New York? ["Yes."] Really?  Do your imitation of me ["No,"] ...Please."
  • "[Walking through an empty park, I start to wonder what that building could be, but dismiss it]...it's just like in Egyptian art, like if you look to your right at the Met [cue lit glass window--appearing out of the darkness, with ancient architecture set up inside like sculpture]."
  • "Miss, did you cut your hair?  It looks so pretty...Miss, Do you have a boyfriend? ["No."] Good, stay single...'cause I bet you you could go to the club tonight and get you a boyfriend if you wanted one, forreal. That's why I say stay single."
  • "You don't have to cover your mouth when you laugh, it's okay."
  • JT: "...Waitasecond."
  • "Dy'all" vs. "Can'tchall."
  • Bud Light, Buzz Lightyear, and how I slurred my speech soon after  Wine+water and peach tea.
  • "Christmas is the greatest." "No, My BIRTHDAY is the greatest."
  • "When you think of something funny, write it down." "I'd be writing all day."
  • "..." "your"
  • "Exhale"
  • "You accepted their hospitality, but you don't know their names."
  • Exit only.  Go to 82nd Street.  Invitation only or if live on this block, go to 79th Street.
  • "Have some champagne.  It's more festive, no?"
  • He looks like a mongoose or a puppy, but definitely a muppet.
  • "I'm here in C-town, buying a turkey, and I don't know how to make rice dressing.  Stay on the phone with me.  I can't make a list."
  • "Facebook-it has nothing to do with reality and actually dealing with people, and that's comfortable.  It's why people like it."
  • idea: once-twice/week facebook, once-twice/week okcupid.
  • "OMAR!"  "OHmyGod what did you just call me?"  "That's Niquari." [I can't believe I just did that.  "It's REALLY not a big deal."]
  • "Let Mr. Griswold think.  That's what he do best."
  • "Y'all are so cute.  Do you call each other Mr. Griswold and Miss Griswold at home?"  "...Yes."
  • "I say y'all in Harlem and have never been looked a strangely."
  • "I just have to laugh.  That's just funny.  That's life, man, sometimes you just need to laugh." [fellow teacher laughing at students]
  • "I look at them [singing, dancing during the jam session] and all I can see is their test grades...it's sad."
  • "Well, the world is ending.  Let's enjoy our last Thanksgiving on earth."
  • "People come to New York from Jersey [Well, from Mississippi!] to see the parade.  Well it's just like I go to Washington to see the monuments."
  • Oprah suggesting anonymous  notes for the holidays
  • images on the news:  "targeting western tourists" "upped the security" "guards with machine guns and bomb-sniffing dogs"
  • "Art for Art's sake" "What do you mean by that, because I know what you mean, but I like to hear your explanation."
  • Tyra show:  "The results show...YOU ARE A LY-ING!"
  • Sibling moment: "Yeah, and if you think about it, our days make up our life..." "OKAY, philosophy major."

  • "doctor's daughter"

Wow, I've had quite a day, but I have to work soon.  Here's an idea:  More Pilates posts.  1.  A full report on Pilates, with details.  2.  an overview of the Kane school principles/musings about why I like them, and/or anatomy, as applied to Pilates. 3.  Cuing through exercises with words. 4.  Just how much classical pilates is necessary for a class to be called Pilates under the Kane school certification?, and other questions.

"An Active Blog."

This week in Thena Z:
1.  Experimental Facebook break.
2.  At the Kane School, it's about being there-- watching teachers work with bodies, asking questions, collecting new movement, listening, and trusting my curiosity.  The goal is ownership, without too much focus placed in over-eagerness, fear, or my own need for attention/approval from others.  This is my project.
3. Work.  Lots of work.
4. Thanksgiving, and pre-thanksgiving.
5. Cooperative games with Tuesday's class
6.  toying with the idea of writing again.  I miss my images.

ministream:
YACHT: "Why to trucks have the nicest graphic design?" I'll ne'er drink again. Friends, talking too much, pairing down,  pairs and citrusEDITYOU:pears, my macbook is dirty, and facebook's not that fun.

Daunting Day!

Pilates Community Class.

While I think, enjoy the Making Fiends episode about a class president, because it has a wonderful song about voting (or just to hear Marvin say "bMy...bMySELF?")

1. Breathing assessment-lying face up on the mat
a. hands on the belly-take a few breaths here.  Allow the breath to even out, and come to a restful pace and depth, and direct your attention to the rise and fall of your belly against your hands. When you're ready, begin your own count of seven breaths.  Allow the breath to sink toward the mat, and spread out from the belly, so that the rise and fall of the abdomen becomes an expansion and release of the back and side ribs.  Bring your hands there for feedback, as you direct the breath more strongly toward the back body, allowing the inner unit to engage slightly on exhale.  When you're done, take one more enhale--arms overhead, feet flexed, knees soft, Exhale strongly, and curl yourself up,  Reach toward your toes for a hamstring stretch.  Roll sequentially up through the spine.  Grab a brick and a bumpy ball.

2. head on the brick, bumpy ball under your bra-line, return to your back.  Grab the brick with your hands, and inhale, allowing the ribs to flare slightly.  Exhale knit the front ribs together, soften the sternum, and swing the ribs into the ball as you nod and curl, feeling your sacrum broad on the mat, keeping the feet parallel and flexed.  Pulse for three dragon breaths and release down.  Repeat 3X, the third time stay up there.  Rotate toward your right shoulder, back to center Left, and center, 3X each side, release down.

Bed soon, and no printer!  Sequence, anyone?
3.  bumpy ball under the hips, knee folds-L&R 4 sets, both legs 3-4 sets
4. neutral pelvis bridge, leg kicks
5. roll up
6. roll over->jackknife?
7. plank, chatterunga
8. (kick two three and up)
9. swimming->swan
10.child's pose, plank->serratus pushups->down dog->twist/side plank->down dog, ch. pose

Oooh More later.

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy--

blog.

Today's discoveries:

1. Ten Minute Soup

101cookbooks.com is a lovely blog that I read somewhat regularly.  Today I made Heidi's recipe for ten-minute couscous soup.  Delicious.

2.  The Ring

Dave has been on a horror flick kick of late, and so we watched this beautifully creepy film.  I'll change the subject now, so as not to dream about it.

3. Dr. Bronner's Lavender Soap, plus Body Shop Olive Body Butter- I smelled good all day, with no skin reaction *winkmblink!*

4.  Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons-On Ice

Upcoming/ongoing challenges:
waking up in the morning after today's diet-coke overload
attacking this room
voting
teaching my first community class at the kane school
solving the equipment problem/planning new lessons for UASPA
helping "Sister" move
helping Brother get apartment stuff done
the search for internships, and (in the more immediate future), volunteer ops

Well...Bye!
